Some of the trees in this grove weigh more than two million pounds and have been growing nearly 3,000 years. Such giant sequoias are the largest living things known, but they are not the oldest (bristlecone pines in California's White Mountains). No other life form will be discovered that combines the greatest of living bulk with a length of life of thousands of years. The Mariposa Grove is the largest and most often visited of the three groves of giant sequoias found within Yosemite National Park. It contains about 500 mature giant sequoias spread over 250 acres at elevations from 5,500 to 7,000 feet.
