The Namib-Naukluft National Park (map), is one of the largest national parks in Africa, covering 50,000km2 and protecting one of the oldest deserts on earth, South America's Atacama Desert being the other contender for this title. The Namib's scenery is stunning, and its wildlife fascinating. The park includes four basic types of environments; sand dunes, river valleys and pans, gravel plains, and inselbergs and mountain outcrops.

Stop to look at a Nala Melon
Roots of plant extend upto 30 feet down to ground water under dry riverbed. Nala melon is a treat for the wildlife - after carefully negociating the thorns of course.
